What’s in your attic?

Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat…

I wonder how many of us are planning to put up our Christmas decorations this weekend. Perhaps you’re one of those people who likes to get into the festive spirit in November and your tree is already up, or are you someone who waits until the last minute? Whatever your preference, for many of us this means a trip into the attic.

What rodent control measure to choose?

In June this year it was announced that legal authorisation to use the last two second generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) – bromadiolone and difenacoum – in open areas and waste dumps will be withdrawn from July 2024. The change was instigated voluntarily by the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU) and enforced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The ban came about in response to evidence that 80% of barn owls – the HSE-nominated sentinel species – have rodenticide residuals in their systems.

Pest control specialist warns business owners about potential pest problems as lockdown ends

As life begins to return to normal and we can finally meet friends and family for a drink or meal, Cleankill Pest Control is warning business owners to be on their guard against unwanted pests.

Managing Director Paul Bates has issued a reminder to pubs, restaurants and businesses with outside seating areas to be extra vigilant against pests.

Surviving as a Rat

“Now, I’m a simple creature. I don’t want much from life, just somewhere safe to sleep, a little bit of warmth and, of course, access to water and food. Even when it comes to food, I’m not that fussy. Whatever is left in bins, on the floor or ignored at the back of a store cupboard is fine by me. It’s one of my strengths…adaptability. My ancestors learnt to exploit whatever opportunities were presented to them, be that food related or ways to access human buildings. In many ways, humans are their own worst enemies and our best friends.

Are your premises ready for the rodent return?

With the country beginning to unlock, Cleankill Pest Control is reminding businesses to check they have the right measures in place to stop an infestation of rodents.

It is often said that a dog is a man’s best friend. However, for rodents, it could be said humans are their best friends. Pre-pandemic, our social lives and working routines gave them plenty of food and harbourage.

South-East industrial site with a rodent infestation

Cleankill Pest Control was called to an industrial site near a railway line in South East England after employees reported seeing rodents and hearing noises in the walls.

Surprisingly there had been no history of rodent infestations at the site. It is common for sites near train lines to have mouse and rat problems because there is plenty of space along the banks for them to find harbourage.

The Growing Rat Problem

It’s been reported this week that the Queen is horrified by the rat and mice problems in Buckingham Palace. Considering the size and function of the building it is not surprising to read that it has a problem with rodents. What is surprising is that this is currently just one of many stories I’m receiving about rat and mouse problems around the world – and the trend seems to be getting worse.
