Cleankill steps in to resolve rat issue where previous company failed

Last year Cleankill surveyor Mark Hobbs was called out to a private house complaining of hearing rats in an extension void. Rats had been seen externally so Mark investigated the drains. The original manhole had been buried under the extension, but a new mini manhole outside showed evidence of rats. A new construction site next door indicated where the problem may have been originating from. A rodding cap was installed and the problem appeared solved.

Cleankill surveyor comes to the rescue of an art gallery owner with a rat problem

Our surveyor Sam Boylett was called to the rescue by the owner of an art gallery and café in Sussex.

Rats had been damaging the frames containing artwork – grinding their teeth on the soft wood. Fortunately, they hadn’t damaged the actual artwork. 

Sam found evidence of rat activity, including chewed carpets, in the top three levels of the building as well as other locations. The café is on the ground floor of the building and supplies are stored in the basement. 

What does the wettest winter for over 100 years mean for rodents?

Britain is facing the wettest winter recorded in 130 years and the extreme rainfall is having very destructive consequences such as flooding. This weather is not only damaging homes and businesses, but also bringing another problem…rats!

Usually, the rat population decreases over the winter due to frost and cold conditions. However, the unusually mild winter has meant rats haven’t had to endure a cold climate. Without this natural form of population control, numbers have increased. Flooding means they are being driven out of natural burrows as well as sewer and drainage systems.

South-East industrial site with a rodent infestation

Cleankill Pest Control was called to an industrial site near a railway line in South East England after employees reported seeing rodents and hearing noises in the walls.

Surprisingly there had been no history of rodent infestations at the site. It is common for sites near train lines to have mouse and rat problems because there is plenty of space along the banks for them to find harbourage.
