Employee Spotlight: Bob Gooden

Bob Gooden

All our staff are brilliant and award-winning but, once a month, we thought we’d shine the spotlight and help you get to know some of our staff who have particularly interesting customers or backgrounds. This month, we’re getting to know our Pest Control Technician Bob.

Bob’s first job was as a postman and he also worked on a trout farm (as he is a keen fisherman) before he joined Rentokil at the age of 21 and worked there for 18 years.

In 2006, Bob joined Cleankill. His wealth of experience made him an immediate asset to the team. He happily passed on his expertise to other members of the team; he specialises in insects, bird proofing and netting and also fumigation.

With a colleague recently leaving, Bob is currently working the largest patch he’s had in his career covering Bristol, Oxfordshire, Wolverhampton, up to Birmingham and across to Portishead. This means working longer days, driving further distances and he has done this without comment - he loves his job and just gets on with it!

Service Director Clive Bury said: “All of his customers respect him and look forward to his visits.”

Covering such a vast area does mean he has some very interesting jobs, including Wildplace which is part of the Bristol Zoo complex. For the last two years he has dealt with rat and cockroach problems in animal compounds housing bears, giraffes, zebras and lemurs. He also looks after the Aardman Animations site where Wallace and Gromit was created.

Over the years, Bob has dealt with every type of premises and job imaginable and nothing phases him. Technical and Training Manager Chris Davis describes him as “an exceptional Technician – they broke the mould when he was produced… I cannot recall a single complaint from either customers or staff about Bob”.

Bob is a superb role model within the pest control industry, having trained nearly 150 technicians! And he loves his job so much that when he came to retire, he found he missed the work and asked if he could come back - of course we happily accepted!
