Seagulls are quite big, as birds go. You can easily spot them, because they mostly have white or grey feathers and are usually very noisy. Of the six main Gull species found in the UK, the one that most commonly nests on buildings is the Herring Gull. Gulls can cause problems when they nest on buildings. Although they like the seaside, gulls will nest anywhere, whether by the sea or not. The loud screeching is usually a bit of a give away. They protect their nests quite vigorously and will dive at you if you go too close. This can be scary and create a health & safety risk, to staff and contractors who need to work in the vicinity of the birds.
The approach with gulls is usually to try and prevent them nesting. If they have an established roosting spot, then things can get a bit tricky. Sometimes, it is best to wait until the young birds have left the nest before attempting to proof the area to stop them coming back again. If you have gull problems, give us a ring.
