By rats we actually mean Brown rats or, in the immortal words of the Stranglers, Rattus norvegicus! There is another type, the Black rat, but they are very rare these days. Brown rats have a bit of a reputation, although the Bubonic plague was a Black rat thing, for being dirty and spreading disease. But they’re not all bad and make good pets, apparently! But they do spread infection in their urine, and that’s not good. Plus, their toilet smells bad, they cause damage and scare people (not us of course). The most common infection associated with rats is Weil’s disease, which can be fatal!
If you’ve got rats in your workplace, your staff & customers will probably object. The location of the building may have a bearing on the risks of rat infestation. In towns and cities, if you are close to a river, railway embankment, or have gardens and open planted areas nearby, these are common places to find rats. You may require some help getting rid of rats, plus some regular monitoring to try and reduce the risk of future problems. It is advisable to avoid touching rat droppings or areas which might be contaminated by rats – just call us in and we’ll deal with it.
Likewise, if you get rats at home, well, that’s pretty bad too. We can help identify the source of the problem and help treat the infestation. If you have children or pets don’t worry, we’ll make sure that all treatment is safe and secure.
