Facilities managers flock to British Academy for pest seminar
Facilities managers who look after some of London’s most prestigious properties gathered at the British Academy in London last week to hear from top pest control experts.
The event, called ‘Pest Control in the 21st Century’, was hosted by Cleankill and designed to update facilities managers about the latest challenges being faced by pest controllers. The audience, which included representatives from Jones Lang LaSalle and HML Hawksworth, also learned about changes in legislation that are likely to affect the pest control methods companies like Cleankill will be able to use in the future.
Industry expert John Charlton, from John Charlton Associates, started the day with a talk about ‘Rodent Control in the 21st century’ and the issues surrounding resistance to anti-coagulants and the Brussels biocide directives which will reduce the number of chemicals available for rodent control.
Cleankill’s technical expert Chris Davis then updated the group with a talk called ‘Common Insect Pests of Offices and Domestic Properties’ about the challenges of dealing with insects ranging from the varied carpet beetle to bed bugs.
Product and Development Manager Paul Hoyes, from pesticide company Killgerm, gave a presentation about pest birds, the damage they can cause and how to avoid problems. He also talked about the different techniques that can be used to prevent them from roosting on buildings.
